Parks & Recreation was approached in 2015 by Heartland Area Lacrosse Club (DBA Ankeny Hawks Lacrosse) to utilize field space at the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex to accommodate their growing participation numbers. After city staff discussions and outreach to Junior Football, it was determined that a lease agreement be adopted for Heartland Lacrosse to lease fields 17 - 19 for the months of March - May. Currently, these fields fall under Junior Football's lease agreement set to expire in 2019.
After last year’s initial lacrosse season at the Complex, City Staff, Junior Football and Heartland Lacrosse evaluated the impact of the program and determined it to be a good fit and great success for the City. Based on this evaluation, City Staff is recommending that the Heartland Lacrosse lease agreement be extended through the 2019 season, terminating at the same time as the other sports clubs’ agreements. The lease agreement being proposed with Heartland Lacrosse mirrors the current lease agreement that was approved by Council in 2016.
Upon approval of the Heartland Lacrosse lease agreement, Junior Football's future lease payments will be reduced for maintenance charges that will now be included in the Heartland Lacrosse lease agreement. |
