The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution accepting a proposal from RW Excavating Solutions for the 2017 - SW Ankeny Road Drainage Repair Project.
The 2017 - SW Ankeny Road Drainage Repair Project includes installing storm sewer and intakes to address drainage issues and filling an eroded area at the project site. The project area is located north of SW Ankeny Road, in front of and adjacent to 1028 SW Ankeny Road. Other associated improvements include excavation, traffic control, sidewalk removal and replacement, surface restoration, and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project. The purpose of the project is to address significant drainage issues and erosion on private property due to inadequate storm sewer infrastructure.
Bid invitations were sent to eight (8) contractors. Three (3) bids were received for the project as follows:
RW Excavating Solutions $27,596.00
Polk County Heating $43,520.00
Vanderpool Construction $63,910.00
The Engineer’s estimated cost for the project was $36,710.00. The bids ranged from 25% below to 74% above the engineer's estimate. RW Excavating Solutions has completed similar projects for the City of Ankeny in the past, and they have the technical experience to complete this project. The Public Works Department recommends awarding the 2017 - SW Ankeny Road Drainage Repair Project to RW Excavating Solutions of Prairie City, Iowa. |
