Cost Sharing Agreement - 1600 Corporate Woods, LLC

Construction of turn lane improvements on SE Corporate Woods Drive.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
1600 Corporate Woods, LLC is constructing a large development in the northeast quadrant of the intersection of SE Corporate Woods Drive and SE Convenience Boulevard to facilitate the relocation of the Baker Group to this site. As part of this project, 1600 Corporate Woods, LLC is required to install a turn lane on Corporate Woods Drive to facilitate safe traffic flow directly to the site from Corporate Woods Drive. The City of Ankeny’s Public Works Department has determined that adding an additional dedicated left turn lane at the SE Convenience Boulevard intersection will provide needed capacity for eastbound-to-northbound turning vehicles which will increase the efficiency and safety at this intersection.  1600 Corporate Woods, LLC has bid the entire project, including both turn lane improvements, and plans to construct the project this spring or summer.  The attached cost share agreement outlines the division of the project for cost purposes and states that the City will make payment to 1600 Corporate Woods, LLC for its share of the project at the time the improvements are accepted by the City Council. 
FISCAL IMPACT: Yes
The cost for the City's portion of the turn lane improvements was included in the 2017 CIP and was estimated to be $130,000.  Based on the bid process, the total anticipated cost to the City is approximately $92,851.  Payment of $85,351 will be made to 1600 Corporate Woods, LLC following the City Council accepting the project.  There will be an additional approx. $7,500 of expense for relocating the emergency siren located in the project area.

Action: Consider motion to adopt RESOLUTION authorizing the Mayor to sign a cost sharing agreement by and between the City of Ankeny, Iowa and 1600 Corporate Woods LLC for construction of turn lane improvements on SE Corporate Woods Drive.
