2017 PCC Reconstruction Program - SE 3rd Street
The 2017 PCC Reconstruction Program – SE 3rd Street project includes pavement reconstruction and minor utility improvements along SE 3rd Street from approximately 650 feet west of SE Lowell Drive to SE Delaware Avenue.
The construction improvements include traffic control, removal of existing street and driveway pavement, Class 10 excavation, removal of existing storm sewer infrastructure, construction of storm sewer improvements, 6” subgrade preparation, 8” subdrain/sump pump service line installation, placement of 6” modified subbase, installation of approximately 4,180 SY of 8” PCC street pavement utilizing a slip-form paving machine, minor adjustments to existing utility fixtures, installation of 6” PCC pavement for driveways and pedestrian ramps, construction of 4” PCC sidewalk spot repairs, constructing ADA compliant pedestrian ramps with regular detectable warning panels, finish grading and backfilling, creating compost-amended topsoil, seed surface restoration, watering, erosion control, required testing and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project.
The bid opening for this project was held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Four (4) bids were received as follows:

The Engineer's Estimate for the project was $737,826.00. The bids ranged from approximately 12% to 31% below the estimate. The City has worked with Con-Struct, Inc., in the past, and their recent work on other projects has been good. It is recommended that the project be awarded to Con-Struct, Inc. of Ames, Iowa.
Pending project approval and award by the City Council, the contractor will be required to start the project within 10 calendar days after the date set forth in the written Notice to Proceed, (expected start date no later than June 12, 2017), and they will have 35 Working Days to substantially complete Stage 1 and an additional 20 Working Days to substantially complete Stage 2 of the project. |
