The city council annually appoints the membership to the WRA Board in January of each year. On January 3, 2017 the council appointed three individuals to serve as the City of Ankeny representatives to the WRA Board, with the term for each of the three representatives expiring on December 31, 2017. In previous years, Ankeny had two seats on the WRA Board. The increase to a third seat was dictated by our population growth (one additional seat for each 50,000 population. Since our population now exceeds 50,000, we were granted a third seat).
Since January, staff has become aware that critical votes by the WRA Board are weighted by each city's population, so that full representation is not needed at each meeting. This promotes efficiency and economy of staff time. To take advantage of this situation, it is recommended that Ankeny's representation on the WRA Board be reduced from three to two members, with the alternate board members and the technical committee members being adjusted as well. The resolution as drafted includes the specific names for each of these committee seats as recommended by staff. |
