The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution accepting a proposal from Voltmer, Inc., for the 2017 - NW Irvinedale Drive and NW 18th Street Traffic Signalization project.

The 2017 - NW Irvinedale Drive and NW 18th Street Traffic Signalization project includes the installation of a fully functional traffic signal.  This project is located at the intersection of NW Irvinedale Drive and NW 18th Street in the City of Ankeny.

The construction improvements include providing and installing four (4) wooden traffic signal poles and one (1) pedestrian push button pole.  Installing City provided traffic signal and pedestrian heads, vehicle and EVP detection, street signage and traffic signal cabinet.  Providing and installing 310 LF of 2 inch and 3 inch conduit.  Providing and installing all necessary wiring to create a fully functional traffic signal.  Other associated improvements include traffic control, mobilization, site restoration and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project.

Bid invitations were sent to three (3) contractors.  Two (2) bids were received for the project as follows:

1.  Voltmer, Inc.                          $29,300.00

2.  Iowa Signal, Inc.                    $31,926.48

The Engineer's Estimate for the project was $35,000.00.  The bids ranged from 16% below to 9% below the Engineer's Estimate.  Voltmer, Inc., has completed similar projects for the City of Ankeny and they have the technical experience to undertake this project.  The Public Works Department recommends award of the 2017 - NW Irvinedale Drive and NW 18th Street Traffic Signalization project to Voltmer, Inc., of Decorah, Iowa.
