Ord 1918:

An Ordinance amending Chapter 63, Speed Regulations, of the Municipal Code of the City of Ankeny, Iowa, by amending Section 63.05, Special Speed Zones, along:

 

1.  Irvinedale Drive from the north corporate limits to Southwest Oralabor Frontage Road, and

 

2.  Polk County Northwest 78th Place to reflect Southwest Oralabor Frontage Road within the City.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

A traffic signal is proposed to be installed at the intersection of NW Irvinedale Drive and NW 18th Street in late July / early August 2017.  In advance of the signal installation, it is recommended that the speed zones on NW Irvinedale Drive in the vicinity of NW 18th Street be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph.  In addition, with the current and planned future development increasing traffic volumes on side streets and along NW Irvinedale Drive between NW 18th Street and NW 36th Street, it is recommended that the existing 45 / 55 mph speed zone change be moved further north.  Lastly, it is recommended that the Ordinance be revised to reflect the City name of SW Oralabor Frontage Road for the road located just south of SW Oralabor Road, rather than the County name of NW 78th Place.

 

Pending approval of the proposed Ordinance revision, it is recommended that Section 63.05, subsections "4.  Irvinedale Drive." and "10.  Northwest 78th Place." be amended to reflect the above changes.
FISCAL IMPACT: No
The only expense will be for the sign installations, which will be completed in-house.
CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATIONS:
Accept first consideration of Ordinance XXXX to amend Chapter 63, Speed Regulations, of the Municipal Code by establishing the posted speed limit of 55 mph on NW Irvinedale Drive from the north corporate limits to a point 2,450 feet north of NW 18th Street; the posted speed limit of 45 mph on NW Irvinedale Drive from a point 2,450 feet north of NW 18th Street to a point 850 feet north of NW 18th Street; the posted speed limit of 35 mph on NW/SW Irvinedale Drive from a point 850 feet north of NW 18th Street to SW 3rd Street Place; the posted speed limit of 45 mph on SW Irvinedale Drive from SW 3rd Street Place to SW Oralabor Road; the posted speed limit of 30 mph on SW Irvinedale Drive from SW Oralabor Road to SW Oralabor Frontage Road; the posted speed limit of 25 mph on NW Irvinedale Drive in the school zone adjacent to Westwood Elementary School as designated by the flashing warning signs; the posted speed limit of 25 mph on NW Irvinedale Drive in the school zone adjacent to NW 13th Street intersection as designated by the flashing warning signs; and the posted speed limit of 30 mph on SW Oralabor Frontage Road from Polk County NW 16th Street to the eastern terminus.
