The West 1st Street Sidewalk Upgrade - Phase 2 project includes the removal of the existing sidewalk and the installation of 8' wide PCC sidewalk along West 1st Street from 600' west of NW Linden Street to just west of NW College Avenue. Other associated improvements include ADA compliant pedestrian ramps, traffic control, surface restoration, driveway replacement and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project.
The bid opening for the project was held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. Seven (7) bids were received as follows:

2. Caliber Concrete $109,286.58
3. Cameron Mitchell Inc. $122,456.38
4. TK Concrete $131,372.00
5. Kingston Services $133,999.10
6. Absolute Concrete $143,690.18
7. Halbrook Excavating $158,228.00
The engineer's estimate for the project was $135,000.00. The bids ranged from approximately 20% below to 17% above the engineer's estimate. Public Works staff reviewed the bid results internally and with the engineering consultant. Public Works staff also requested and received references for MNM Concrete Specialists for similar projects, and the feedback has been positive. Based on their past project experience, it appears they have the technical experience to undertake the project. It is recommended that the project be awarded to MNM Concrete Specialist of Des Moines, Iowa.
Pending project approval and award, the contractor will be required to start the project no later than July 10, 2017. The contractor will have twenty-five (25) working days to substantially complete the project.
