SUBJECT:
Ord 1927: An Ordinance amending Chapter 63, Speed Regulations, of the Municipal Code of the City of Ankeny, Iowa, by amending Section 63.05, Special Speed Zones, to allow for the addition of a "35 MPH" speed zone along:

1.  NE 36th Street from North Ankeny Boulevard (U.S. Highway 69) to NE Briarwood Drive.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The NE 36th Street Reconstruction - Phase 2 project is now substantially complete, with all streets, driveways, and sidewalks fully open to traffic.  With the NE 36th Street corridor now being urbanized from North Ankeny Boulevard (U.S. Highway 69) to NE Briarwood Drive, the posted speed limit has been lowered from 45 mph to 35 mph.  The lowering of the speed limit along this stretch of NE 36th Street aligns with the existing posted speed limit of 35 mph along NE 36th Street from NE Briarwood Drive to Interstate 35.

Pending approval of the proposed Ordinance revision, it is recommended that Section 63.05, subsection "7.  North 36th Street." be amended to reflect the above changes.

FISCAL IMPACT: No
The only expense will be for the sign installations, which will be completed in-house.
CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATIONS:
