The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution accepting a proposal from Castrejon, Inc. for the Fiber Optic Connection to the Public Services Building.
The Fiber Optic Connection to the Public Services Building is necessary to support communication needs for the City departments scheduled for fall 2020 relocation into the renovated former Kirkendall Public Library. The project includes placing new fiber optic cable in existing conduit with fiber optic cable splicing and terminations. An existing hub cabinet in Prairie Trail Sports Complex will be removed and replaced with underground infrastructure.
The project was advertised on the City website and QuestCDN. Six (6) bids were received for the project as follows:
Castrejon, Inc. $ 35,251.25
Communication Innovators, Inc. $ 45,664.41
Precision Underground Utilities, LLC $ 46,697.50
BDC Group, Inc. $ 51,081.10
Price Industrial Electric, Inc. $ 66,688.75
Van Maanen Electric, Inc. $ 94,757.15
The Engineer’s estimated cost for the project was $ 58,503.75. The low bidder, Castrejon, Inc. has not completed work for the City prior to this project, so Public Works staff contacted three agencies with recent similar projects completed by the firm. Based on the discussions with these references, the Public Works Department recommends awarding the Fiber Optic Connection to the Public Services Building project to Castrejon, Inc. of Blaine, Minnesota.
