Consider motion to adopt RESOLUTION authorizing the City of Ankeny to submit an application for Federal Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) Funding to the Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the partial funding of the West First Street Widening and Improvements - Phase 1 Project and further approving the application which obligates the City of Ankeny to matching funds for the construction of said project.

| EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: |
The applications for FFY 2022 STBG funding are due at this time. Staff recommends that the city submit an application for the West First Street Widening and Improvements - Phase 1 project. This project includes the reconstruction of West First Street from Ankeny Blvd. west to SW Scott Street so that the street is widened to provide center left turn lanes. The purpose of this improvement is to reduce congestion, reduce travel times and increase safety along the corridor. The city was previously awarded $750,000 in 2020 STBG funding and $630,000 in 2021 STBG funding for this project. The project carries an estimated cost of $6.5 Million. The attached resolution will facilitate this application, which requests an additional $1.5 Million in federal funding for the project.

This project is included in the proposed Capital Improvements Program for construction in 2020 and 2021. If the project is awarded STBG funding, the city's portion of the project costs will be proportionately reduced.

Recommend approval of this resolution authorizing the City of Ankeny to submit an application for STBG funding and further approving the application which obligates the City of Ankeny to matching funds for the construction of said project.
