The IA 415 and West First Street Traffic Signal project includes the installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of IA 415 (NW Polk City Drive) and West First Street / County NW 94th Avenue, fiber optic cable interconnect, sidewalk and pedestrian ramp improvements and minor pavement removal and replacement.
The construction improvements include the new traffic signal and approximately 55 SY of PCC sidewalk paving and 40 SY of PCC street paving. Other associated improvements include pavement markings, traffic control, surface restoration, and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project.
The bid opening for this project was held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Four (4) bids were received as follows:
1. Iowa Signal, Inc. $293,883.00
2. Van Maanen Electric, Inc. $309,112.49
3. Voltmer Electric, Inc. $315,950.00
4. Baker Electric, Inc. $329,248.44
The Engineer's Estimate for the project was $316,785.00. The bids ranged from approximately 7% below to 4% above the estimate. The City has worked with Iowa Signal in the past, and their recent work on other projects has been good. It is recommended that the project be awarded to Iowa Signal, Inc. of Des Moines, Iowa. The bids were also reviewed with the Iowa DOT due to the state funding involved, and they concur with the recommendation to award.
Pending project approval and award by the City Council, the contractor will be required to substantially complete the project by May 16, 2018. |
