The action before the City Council is the approval of a professional services agreement with Snyder & Associates, Inc., for the survey, preliminary design, final design, bidding and construction engineering services needed to facilitate the construction of the I-35 Southbound Ramps and SE Corporate Woods Drive Traffic Signal project.
The project is included in the City's 2018 - 2022 CIP as a part of the Annual Traffic Signal Improvement Program. The scope of the project involves adding a traffic signal and improvements to sidewalk pedestrian ramps at the I-35 Southbound Ramps and SE Corporate Woods Drive intersection. A traffic signal warrant analysis was completed by the City's engineering staff in October 2017 and the analysis showed installing a traffic signal at the intersection is warranted. The Iowa DOT has reviewed and concurred with the warrant analysis. In December 2017, the Iowa DOT notified the City that the Iowa DOT would fund 55% of the project's construction costs, up to a maximum of $200,000, through the Urban-State Traffic Engineering Program (U-STEP).
The survey and design of the project need to be undertaken at this time so that the project schedule can be maintained. The Public Works Department proposes to use Snyder & Associates, Inc., to complete the necessary professional services for this project. The scope of the engineering services and the corresponding fees for the services are shown in the attached Professional Services Agreement. The fee for the engineering services is $57,400.00.
It is recommended that the City Council approve the Professional Services Agreement with Snyder & Associates, Inc. |
