The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution accepting a proposal from Scodeller Construction, Inc. for the 2018 PCC Pavement Preservation Program project.
The 2018 PCC Pavement Preservation Program project includes the cleaning and filling of cracks and joints in PCC street pavement within the Hayes Acres, Crestbruck Acres, Barclay, and Fountain View Estates neighborhoods, generally located between NE Trilein Drive and NE Delaware Avenue just north of NE 5th Street in the City of Ankeny.
The construction improvements include cleaning and filling of approximately 3,625 LF of intersection joints, 39,900 LF of longitudinal joints, 42,750 LF of transverse joints, and 8,125 LF of miscellaneous cracks. Other associated improvements include traffic control, mobilization, and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project.
Bid invitations were sent to 20 contractors. Five (5) bids were received for the project as follows:
1. Scodeller Construction, Inc. $109,728.00
2. National Sealant & Concrete, LLC $124,780.00
3. Henriksen Contracting, LLC $126,500.00
4. Midwest Coatings Company, Inc. $132,720.00
5. Illowa Investment, Inc. $174,460.00
The Engineer's Estimate for the project was $124,500.00. The bids ranged from 12% below to 40% above the Engineer's Estimate. Scodeller Construction, Inc. has completed previous pavement preservation projects for the City of Ankeny, and they have the technical experience and capacity to undertake the proposed project. The Public Works Department recommends award of the 2018 PCC Pavement Preservation Program project to Scodeller Construction, Inc. of St. Joseph, Missouri.
Pending project approval and award by the City Council, the contractor will be required to fully complete the project no later than June 16, 2018 if commencing work in Spring 2018 or no later than October 27, 2018 if commencing work in Fall 2018. The Notice to Proceed is expected to be issued in late March 2018. |
