The action before the City Council is the approval of a Professional Services Agreement with Snyder & Associates, Inc., for the conceptual design, preliminary design, final design, property acquisition and bidding phase services needed for the South Ankeny Boulevard and SE Shurfine Drive/SW Prairie Trail Parkway Intersection Improvements project. The scope of the project includes reconstructing the existing rural four-lane section to an urban five-lane boulevard section with turn lanes, replacing the existing temporary traffic signal with a permanent traffic signal, constructing SW Prairie Trail Parkway from SW School Street to South Ankeny Boulevard and associated pipe culvert, storm sewer, water main and recreational trail improvements.
The design of the project needs to be undertaken at this time so the project schedule can be maintained. The Public Works Department proposes to use Snyder & Associates, Inc., to complete the necessary conceptual design, preliminary design, final design, property acquisition and bidding phase services for the project because they have extensive experience along the South Ankeny Boulevard corridor, having previously designed the South Ankeny Boulevard and SW Magazine Road intersection. The scope of the design engineering services and corresponding fees for the services are shown in the attached Professional Services Agreement. The total fee for the design engineering services is $261,800.00. |
