This project is the first of two phases to extend the High Trestle Trail between SW Ordnance Rd., and IA Hwy 160 / SE Oralabor Rd.  This first phase will extend the trail from its current terminus at SW Ordnance Rd., southeast to SE Magazine Rd., where it will connect to an 8-ft. community trail.  This project will include a grade separated crossing (specifically an underpass) for the trail at U.S. Highway 69 / South Ankeny Boulevard.

The City is in the process of designing the proposed High Trestle Trail Extension project from SW Ordnance Rd., to SE Magazine Rd., including the underpass of U.S. Highway 69 / South Ankeny Boulevard.  In order to facilitate further development of the project, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has submitted a Cooperative Agreement for Primary Highway Improvement Project which contemplates the City's and Iowa DOT's responsibilities on the project.  It is recommended that the City Council approve the agreement at this time, so the project schedule can be maintained.  Currently, the project is scheduled to be designed in 2018 and constructed in 2019.
