The proposed amended and restated 1991 Ankeny Economic Development Urban Renewal Plan, which was adopted in 1991, includes the following updates:

• Addition of proposed eligible urban renewal projects
• Updated project costs and city financial data
• Updated objectives and activities for the area
• Extension of a self imposed 20-year sunset

These updates are necessary for the following reasons:

• With new development planned for the Uptown area, potential infrastructure projects and redevelopment programs have been added 
• Proposed project costs need to be revised to reflect current cost estimates.
• More clearly defines the objectives and eligible activities, which are similar to the objectives and activities in the 1989 Urban Renewal Area. 
• Extending the self imposed sunset of the UR area by 20 years will aid the continuation of efforts to encourage reinvestment along S. Ankeny Blvd., Uptown, and First Street.

A public hearing date for this amendment was set at the February 19, 2018 meeting of the City Council.

Action: Consider motion to receive and file the report from Economic Development Director, Derek Lord, with respect to the consultation meeting held on February 26, 2018.

Action: Consider motion to adopt RESOLUTION determining an area of the City to be an economic development area, and that the rehabilitation, conservation, redevelopment, development, or a combination thereof, of such area is necessary in the interest of the public health, safety or welfare of the residents of the City; designating such area as appropriate for urban renewal projects; and adopting the amended and restated 1991 City of Ankeny Urban Renewal Plan.
