The 2018 PCC Reconstruction – NW Prairie Ridge Drive project includes the full depth removal and replacement of PCC street pavement generally located in the northwest quadrant of the City of Ankeny, along NW Prairie Ridge Drive from 900 feet west of NW Ash Drive to NW Ash Drive. The construction improvements include the removal and replacement of approximately 2,300 SY of 8”, class C-SUD PCC pavement, 245 CY of class 10 excavation, 2,100 SY of Modified Subbase, 870 LF of 8” subdrain and removal and replacement of 150 SY 6” PCC Sidewalk. Other associated improvements include traffic control, durable painted pavement markings, a single storm sewer spot repair, cast iron truncated domes, erosion control, temporary surface stabilization and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project.
The bid opening for this project was held on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Five (5) bids were received as follows:
1. MNM Concrete Specialist $227,172.75
2. Halbrook Excavating $273,889.50
3. Alliance Construction Group, LLC $279,775.80
4. MPS Engineers, PC dba Kingston Services PC $284,986.10
5. Con-Struct, Inc. $309,688.80
The Engineer's Estimate for the project was $316,205.50. The bids ranged from approximately 28% below to 2% below the estimate. The City reviewed the bid results. MNM Concrete Specialist has completed other paving projects for the City in the past, and they have the experience to complete this project. It is recommended that the project be awarded to MNM Concrete Specialist of Des Moines, Iowa.
Pending project approval and award by the City Council, the Contractor will be required to start the project on June 4, 2018, after the end of the school year. They will have to complete Phase 1A by July 11, 2018, prior to Summerfest and will have 40 working days to fully complete the overall project. |
