Proposed Ash Tower Repair and Coating Project

Initiate Proceedings

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The Ash Tower Repair and Coating Project is generally located along NW Ash Drive just north of W. 1st Street, west of the park and ride parking lot.

 

The construction improvements include all materials, labor, and equipment necessary for removal of all existing wet interior coating, removal of all exterior coating including roof, platforms, hatches, balcony, riser, ladder, cable chase, legs, struts, stiffeners, and piping; surface preparation; apply new coating to all surfaces; logos; structural and related work; welding and grinding; waste disposal; grading, ground surface restoration, and miscellaneous associated work for the 500,000 gallon Ash Water Tower, including cleanup.

 

The project is being presented for bidding at this time.  Pending project approval and award, the contractor will be required to substantially complete the project no later than October 31, 2018 and fully complete the project no later than November 21, 2018. Council approval at this time will set the following schedule for the proceedings:

1. Set Date of Bid Opening and Public Hearing:  April 2, 2018

 

2. Post Notice to Bidders and Notice of Public Hearing:  April 6, 2018

3. Publish Notice to Bidders and Notice of Public of Hearing:  April 20, 2018

4. Bid Opening (10:30 A.M., City Hall):  May 1, 2018

5. Public Hearing and Award Contract:  May 7, 2018
(Hold Public Hearing on the plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimated total cost, review bids, award contract and approve contract and bonds.)

FISCAL IMPACT: No
This project is included in the City's current Capital Improvements Program.
CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended that the Council take the following action:

1. Adopt Resolution ordering construction and setting the bid opening date as May 1, 2018 and setting the public hearing date as May 7, 2018 for the Ash Tower Repair and Coating Project, in accordance with the Notice to Bidders and Notice of Public Hearing to be posted to the Iowa League of Cities and the Master Builders of Iowa websites on April 6, 2018 and published in the Des Moines Register on April 20, 2018.
