The bid opening was held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 for the construction contract associated with the Community Entrance Signs project.

The total bids ranged from approximately 9% to 20% below the engineer's estimate. Staff is familiar with the firm of Edge Commercial, and will be requesting resume information from the company to insure that they have successfully completed similar projects. If we receive positive results of that request, staff will be recommending that the project be awarded to Edge Commercial of Grimes, Iowa.
Pending Council's decision to award the project, the contractor will have 75 working days to substantially complete the two large signs. The signs must be fully completed including being lit at night by this date. The contractor will then have an additional 15 working days to complete surface restoration as needed around the signs. |

| CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATIONS: |
1. Hold a hearing on the proposed Contract Documents (plans, specifications, and form of contract) and estimated total cost ($ 319,000.00).
2. Approve Resolution, adopting said plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimated cost for the Community Entrance Signs project.
3. Receive and file the report of bids received on April 10, 2018.
4. Approve Resolution making award of construction contract to Edge Commercial of Grimes, Iowa.
5. Approve Resolution approving contract and bonds with Edge Commercial in the amount of $255,170.00. |

Action: Consider motion to 1) adopt RESOLUTION adopting plans, specifications, form of contract and estimate of cost ($319,000.00); 2) receive and file report of bids received April 10, 2018; and 3) adopt RESOLUTION making award of construction contract with Edge Commercial of Grimes, Iowa, in the amount of $255,170.00 for the Community Entrance Signs Project.
