Proposed NE 54th Street Bridge Replacement Over Branch of Fourmile Creek

The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution regarding the NE 54th Street Bridge Replacement Over Branch of Fourmile Creek project.  This involves ordering construction, setting a public hearing date on the contract documents (plans, specifications, form of contract) and estimated total cost and setting a date for considering the bids on the project.

The NE 54th Street Bridge Replacement Over Branch of Fourmile Creek project includes the removal and replacement of the existing roadway bridge, reconstruction of the existing roadway and 8' & 5' sidewalk connections on NE 54th Street between NE Briarwood Drive and NE Hillcrest Drive in the City of Ankeny.

The majority of this project is being funded with Federal-aid SWAP City Highway Bridge Program (HBP) and Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) funds.  As a result, the project is required to be bid through the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT).  Pending Council approval, the schedule for the project will be as follows:

1.  Set Date of Bid Opening and Public Hearing:  December 17, 2018

2.  Post the Notice to Bidders:  December 21, 2018

3.  Bid Opening (10:00 A.M., Iowa DOT Office of Contracts):  January 16, 2019

4.  Publish the Notice of Public Hearing:  January 18, 2019

5.  Public Hearing and Contract Award:  February 4, 2019

(Hold Public Hearing on the plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated total cost, review bids, award contract, and approve contract and bonds.)

It is recommended that the Council take the following action:

1.  Adopt Resolution ordering construction and setting the public hearing date as February 4, 2019 for the NE 54th Street Bridge Replacement Over Branch of Fourmile Creek project in accordance with the Notice of Public Hearing to be published in the Des Moines Register on January 18, 2019.

August 20, 2018: The agreement with the Iowa DOT to facilitate the federal funding for this project through the City Highway Bridge Program was approved by City Council.

October 15, 2018: The agreement with the Iowa DOT to facilitate the federal funding for this project through the Surface Transportation Block Grant program was approved by City Council.

November 19, 2018: An Amendment to the agreement with the Iowa DOT to facilitate the federal funding for this project through the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program was approved by City Council.

Action: Consider motion to adopt RESOLUTION ordering construction on the NE 54th Street Bridge Replacement Over Branch of Fourmile Creek, and fixing a date for hearing thereon and taking of bids therefor. (date of bid-letting: 1/16/19 @ 10:00 a.m./date of hrg: 2/4/19 @ 5:30 p.m.)
