The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution accepting a proposal from Henriksen Contracting, LLC for the 2019 PCC Pavement Preservation Program project.
The 2019 PCC Pavement Preservation Program project includes the cleaning and filling of cracks and joints in PCC street pavement within the Barclay, Winbury, Terrell Manor and Terrell Stoneridge Knolls neighborhoods, generally located between NE Grant Street and NE Delaware Avenue just south of NE 18th Street in the City of Ankeny.
The construction improvements include cleaning and filling of approximately 47,100 LF of longitudinal joints, 49,750 LF of transverse joints and 7,400 LF of miscellaneous cracks. Other associated improvements include temporary traffic control, mobilization and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project.
Bid invitations were sent to 20 contractors. Six (6) bids were received for the project as follows:
1. Henriksen Contracting, LLC $118,166.20
2. National Sealant & Concrete, LLC $133,747.98
3. Scodeller Construction, Inc. $134,760.08
4. Midwest Coatings Company, Inc. $150,511.54
5. Iowa Civil Contracting, Inc. $199,890.12
5. Illowa Investment, Inc. $277,592.90
The Engineer's Estimate for the project was $136,802.50. The bids ranged from 14% below to 203% above the Engineer's Estimate. Henriksen Contracting, LLC completed the 2016 PCC Pavement Preservation Program project for the City of Ankeny and they have the technical experience and capacity to undertake the proposed project. The Public Works Department recommends award of the 2019 PCC Pavement Preservation Program project to Henriksen Contracting, LLC of Grimes, Iowa.
Pending project approval and award by the City Council, the contractor will be required to fully complete the project no later than June 15, 2019 if commencing work in Spring 2019 or no later than November 2, 2019 if commencing work in Fall 2019. The Notice to Proceed is expected to be issued in either late March 2019 or early April 2019.
