The North Ankeny Boulevard and NW-NE Georgetown Boulevard Intersection Improvements and Signalization project includes installation of a permanent traffic signal. In the past year, increasingly long lead time for procurement of traffic signal poles and mast arms has contributed to delays in completing similar City capital improvement projects. Pre-ordering these items and furnishing for contractor installation with the project, can decrease the delay in opening the full project to the public's benefit.

Quotes for manufacture and delivery of the signal poles and mast arms needed for the project were requested per City of Ankeny Purchasing Policy. Both cost and expected delivery date were considered in the award recommendation. There are two regional suppliers. Valmont Industries responded with Quote #440568-01, in the amount of $45,231.00 and expected delivery in mid-September 2019. The second supplier, Millerbernd Manufacturing Company, quoted $38,774.00 and expected delivery in late December 2019.

Award of the purchase of the signal poles and mast arms to Valmont Industries is recommended, as it is in the City's and the public's best interest to place the new traffic signal into operation as soon as possible.
