The South Ankeny Boulevard Fiber Optic Relocation Project includes the relocation of the City of Ankeny and Ankeny Community School District fiber optic lines along South Ankeny Boulevard between the Public Works Maintenance Facility at 211 SE Lorenz Drive and S 3rd Street. The purpose of the project is to maintain the communication networks for each agency throughout the 2019-2020 construction of the South Ankeny Boulevard and SE Shurfine Drive/ SW Prairie Trail Parkway Intersection Improvements and the High Trestle Trail Extension projects.
The construction improvements include the installation of approximately 7,400 LF of 2-inch HDPE bored conduit, 28,300 LF of 96SM fiber optic cable, and 21 handholes. Other associated improvements include fiber optic terminations / splicing, traffic control, surface restoration and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project. All conduit, fiber optic cable and handholes for the project will be supplied to the contractor by the City of Ankeny.
The bid opening for the project was held on Tuesday February 26, 2019. Three (3) bids were received as follows:
1. Communication Innovators, Inc. $ 155,081.80
2. Price Industrial Electric, Inc. $ 165,540.00
3. Precision Underground Utilities, LLC $ 186,037.00
The engineer's estimate for the project was $ 196,320.00. The bids range from approximately 5% to 20% below the engineer's estimate. Public Works staff reviewed the bid results internally and with Snyder & Associates, Inc., the engineering firm that designed the project. It is recommended that the project be awarded to Communication Innovators, Inc., of Pleasant Hill, Iowa.
Pending project approval and award by the City Council, the contractor shall fully complete the overall project by no later than May 18, 2019. Notice to Proceed is expected to be issued by mid-March 2019. Should the contractor fail to fully complete the work within this timeframe, liquidated damages of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) per calendar day will be assessed. |
