The monthly curbside recycling fee will increase $.01 from $2.68 to $2.69 per household per month, effective July 1, 2019. The Curb It! rate is calculated based on the nationally published CPI and the compressed natural gas index that are provisions of the Metro Waste Authority contract with Waste Management for collection services. The increase will cover the cost of collection for recycled materials.
Also, effective July 1, 2019 is an additional $0.74 per household per month increase related to a new processing fee. After multiple, unplanned contract negotiations with the recycling processor, Metro Waste Authority incurred a 37% increase, in addition to a change in the structure of the revenue share from commodities.
In summary, beginning July 1, 2019, the total cost for residents to recycle is increasing from $2.68 to $3.43 per month. |
