The SW State Street and SW Prairie Trail Parkway Traffic Signal Improvements includes reconstruction of left-turn lanes, intersection widening, sidewalk and crosswalk improvements, and traffic signalization.
The improvements include construction of approximately 205 CY of earthwork, 290 CY of imported topsoil, 352 SY of 8-inch and 1,339 SY of 9-inch PCC pavement, 249 SY of 9-inch colored and stamped PCC pavement, 319 SY of PCC sidewalk, 1,981 SF of sidewalk pavers, temporary street lighting, traffic signalization, granular subbase, subdrain and cleanouts, water main insulating, structure adjustments, pavement removal, landscaping removals, traffic control, pavement markings, erosion control, and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project. The City will furnish combination signal / lighting poles and mast arms, for contractor installation.
The bid opening for the project was held on Tuesday April 9, 2019. Three (3) bids were received as follows:
1. Con-Struct, Inc. $ 795,000.00
2. Hawkeye Paving Corp. $ 856,520.00
3. Absolute Concrete $ 966,542.50
The engineer's estimate for the project was $ 745,835.00. The bids range from approximately 7% to 30% above the engineer's estimate. Public Works staff reviewed the bid results internally and with Nilles Associates, Inc., the engineering firm that designed the project. It is recommended that the project be awarded to Con-Struct, Inc., of Ames, Iowa.
Pending project approval and award by the City Council, the contractor shall substantially complete the overall project within 60 working days. The early start date is June 3, 2019. |
