The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution accepting a proposal from Communication Innovators, Inc. for the Fiber Optic Relocation at SW State St and SW Prairie Trail Parkway Project.

The Fiber Optic Relocation at SW State St and SW Prairie Trail Parkway Project is necessary for the construction of the SW State Street and SW Prairie Trail Parkway Traffic Signal Improvements project. The project includes removing existing fiber optic cables from existing 2” conduit, placing new 2” conduit by boring and trenching, placing new handholes, replacing previously removed fiber optic cable along with new fiber optic cable and fiber optic cable splicing.

The work is scheduled to facilitate the major traffic signal project, and to accommodate the communication needs of Ankeny Community School District and the Cascade Falls Aquatic Center.

Bid invitations were sent to six (6) contractors. One (1) bid was received for the project as follows:

Communication Innovators, Inc.    $61,211.40

The Engineer’s estimated cost for the project was $ 31,110.00. Communication Innovators, Inc is currently progressing on a similar project for the City of Ankeny and they have the technical experience to complete this project. The Public Works Department recommends awarding the Fiber Optic Relocation at SW State Street and SW Prairie Trail Parkway Project to Communication Innovators, Inc. of Pleasant Hill, Iowa.
