The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution accepting a proposal from Jensen Construction Company for the North Creek Slope and Channel Flood Repair Project.

The North Creek Slope and Channel Flood Repair Project was included in the 2019 Capital Improvement Program.  The project includes repairing damage caused by the June 30, 2018 extreme flash flooding event and protecting a sanitary sewer main.  The project work will include driven sheet pile wall installation, special pipe encasement, grading, and rip rap placement.  The project area is located west of the NW Irvindeale Drive and NW 9th Street intersection along North Creek. 

Bid invitations were sent to twenty-four (24) contractors. Two (2) bids were received for the project as follows:

Jensen Construction Company    $136,657.00

Halbrook Excavating                    $187,000.00

The Engineer’s estimated cost for the project was $87,925.00 and the bids were approximately 55% above to 113% above the Engineer's estimate. Jensen Construction Company has completed projects for the City of Ankeny in the past and they have the technical experience to complete this project. The Public Works Department recommends awarding the North Creek Slope and Channel Flood Repair Project to Jensen Construction Company of Des Moines, Iowa.
