The SW Des Moines Street – Prairie Trail to Magazine project consists of the construction of SW Des Moines Street from just south of SW Magazine Road to just north of SW Prairie Trail Parkway. One storm water detention basin and three wetlands will also be constructed as part of this project.
The construction improvements for the street corridor include topsoil stockpile, topsoil respread, sanitary sewer installation, storm sewer installation, large culvert installation, water main installation, earthwork excavation, subgrade preparation, PCC street paving with a slip-form paver machine required, PCC sidewalk paving, ADA compliant pedestrian ramps, brick paver installation, and traffic sign installation. The construction improvements for the storm water detention basin and wetlands include pond clay liner preparation, wetland micro-grading, outlet structures, turf reinforcement mats, and armor mat. Other associated improvements include miscellaneous removals, temporary erosion and sediment controls, surface restoration, pavement markings, required testing, and miscellaneous associated work.
The bid opening for this project was held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Four (4) bids were received as follows:

The Engineer's Estimate for the project was $3,582,812.00. The bids ranged from approximately 10% to 5% below the estimate. The City has worked with Concrete Technologies, Inc. in the past, and they have the technical experience to complete this project. It is recommended that the project be awarded to Concrete Technologies, Inc. of Grimes, Iowa.
Pending project approval and award by the City Council, the contractor will be required to start the project within 10 calendar days after the date set forth in the written Notice to Proceed, (expected start date no later than May 13, 2019), and they will have 130 Working Days to substantially complete the project with mandatory 6 day work weeks. |
