Proposed NE Delaware Avenue Sidewalk Connection (PH 2019-34)

NE DELAWARE AVENUE SIDEWALK CONNECTION

The NE Delaware Avenue Sidewalk Connection project includes 8’ sidewalk construction along NE Delaware Avenue from just north of NW 18^th Street to 150’ north of NE 24^th Court in the City of Ankeny, Iowa.

The construction improvements include temporary traffic control, clearing and grubbing, Class 10 excavation, on-site topsoil, minor culvert improvements, pavement removals, full-depth street patches, 7” PCC driveway reconstruction, 6” PCC sidewalk for pedestrian ramps, 5” PCC sidewalk, construction of ADA compliant pedestrian ramps with cast iron detectable warning panels, erosion control, finish grading and backfilling, seed surface restoration, required testing and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project.

The bid opening for this project was held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.  Six (6) bids were received as follows:

The Engineer's Estimate for the project was $195,190.00.  The bids ranged from approximately 14% below to 17% above the estimate.  The City has worked with Howrey Construction, Inc. in the past, and their recent work on other projects has been good.  It is recommended that the project be awarded to Howrey Construction, Inc. of Rockwell City, Iowa.

Pending project approval and award by the City Council, the contractor will be required to start the project within 10 calendar days after the date set forth in the written Notice to Proceed, (expected start date no later than July 1, 2019), and they will have 30 Working Days to fully complete the project.

This project is included in the City's current Capital Improvements Program with construction scheduled in 2019.

1.  Hold a hearing on the proposed Contract Documents (plans, specifications, and form of contract) and estimated cost ($195,190.00).

2.  Approve Resolution, adopting said plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimated cost for the NE Delaware Avenue Sidewalk Connection project.

3.  Receive and file the report of bids received on April 30, 2019.

4.  Approve Resolution, making award of construction contract to Howrey Construction, Inc., of Rockwell City, Iowa.

5.  Approve Resolution, approving contract and bonds with Howrey Construction, Inc., in the amount of $167,688.05.

Action: Consider motion to adopt 1) RESOLUTION adopting plans, specifications, form of contract and estimate of cost ($195,190.00); 2) receive and file report of bids received April 30, 2019; and 3) adopt RESOLUTION making award of construction contract with Howrey Construction, Inc. in the amount of $167,688.05 for the NE Delaware Avenue Sidewalk Connection project.

Action: Consider motion to adopt RESOLUTION approving construction contract and bond with Howrey Construction, Inc. in the amount of $167,688.05 for the NE Delaware Avenue Sidewalk Connection project.
