The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution accepting a proposal from Howrey Construction, Inc. for the NE Delaware Avenue and NE 18th Street Pedestrian Improvements.
The project will construct new pedestrian ramps and install new pedestrian pushbuttons and signal heads to support crossings of NE Delaware Avenue and NE 18th Street, respectively. The project connects existing sidewalk and trail with the new facilities under construction with the NE Delaware Avenue Pedestrian Bridge and Sidewalk project. The City has procured traffic signal equipment to be furnished for contractor installation. The project is expected to be completed in early August 2019.
Bid invitations were sent to twenty (20) contractors. One (1) bid was received for the project as follows:
Howrey Construction, Inc. $ 51,449.00
Engineer's Estimated Construction Cost $ 30,745.00
This project was originally sent out for bids in September 2018; however, no bids were received with that letting. Due to wet weather conditions in the summer and fall 2018 and spring 2019, contractors' availability is limited to take on smaller or time-sensitive work.
Howrey Construction, Inc. is the contractor on the NE Delaware Avenue Sidewalk Connection project for the City of Ankeny, and they have the technical experience to complete this project. The Public Works Department recommends awarding the NE Delaware Avenue and NE 18th Street Pedestrian Improvements project to Howrey Construction, Inc. of Rockwell City, Iowa.
