2019 – CRESTBRUCK PARK RECREATION TRAIL REPLACEMENT & MISCELLANEOUS TRAIL PATCHES

The 2019 – Crestbruck Park Recreation Trail Replacement & Miscellaneous Trail Patches project includes the removal and replacement of the existing trail loop in Crestbruck Park with PCC pavement and removal and replacement of some existing PCC trail along SW State Street between SW 16^th Street and SW Magazine Road and along SW Oralabor Road at the pedestrian bridge over the DMACC pond outlet.

The construction improvements include HMA & PCC sidewalk removal, 5” & 6” PCC sidewalk paving, temporary traffic control, permanent & temporary surface stabilization and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project.

The bid opening for this project was held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019.  Five (5) bids were received as follows:

The Engineer's Estimate for the project was $193,025.00.  The bids ranged from approximately 13% below to 18% above the estimate.  The City of Ankeny has not worked with Shekar Engineering, P.L.C. is the past, so we requested project references from the contractor to help gauge their past work performance.  The references that were contacted stated Shekar Engineering, P.L.C. was a responsible contractor, and they did not have concerns about Shekar's past work performance.  It is recommended that the project be awarded to Shekar Engineering, P.L.C. of Des Moines, Iowa.

Pending project approval and award by the City Council, the contractor will be required to start the project within 10 calendar days after the date set forth in the written Notice to Proceed, (expected start date no later than August 12, 2019), and they will have until September 30, 2019 to fully complete the project.

This project is included in the City's current Capital Improvements Program with construction scheduled in 2019.

1.  Hold a hearing on the proposed Contract Documents (plans, specifications, and form of contract) and estimated cost ($193,025.00).

2.  Approve Resolution, adopting said plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimated cost for the 2019 - Crestbruck Park Recreation Trail Replacement & Miscellaneous Trail Patches project.

3.  Receive and file the report of bids received on May 29, 2019.

4.  Approve Resolution, making award of construction contract to Shekar Engineering, P.L.C., of Des Moines, Iowa.

5.  Approve Resolution, approving contract and bonds with Shekar Engineering, P.L.C., in the amount of $168,064.25.

Action: Consider motion to adopt 1) RESOLUTION adopting plans, specifications, form of contract and estimate of cost ($193,025.00); 2) receive and file report of bids received May 29, 2019; and 3) adopt RESOLUTION making award of construction contract with Shekar Engineering, P.L.C. in the amount of $168,064.25 for the 2019 - Crestbruck Park Recreation Trail Replacement and Miscellaneous Trail Patches Project.

Action: Consider motion to adopt RESOLUTION approving construction contract and bond with Shekar Engineering, P.L.C. in the amount of $168,064.25 for the 2019 - Crestbruck Park Recreation Trail Replacement and Miscellaneous Trail Patches Project.
