The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution accepting a proposal from Jasper Construction Services, Inc. for the West First Street Bridge Abutment Flood Repair Project.

The West First Street Bridge Abutment Flood Repair Project is included in the Annual Stormwater Replacement Program.  The project will include topsoil import, excavation, removal and replacement of sidewalk, abutment washout repair and conduit protection with flowable mortar, Flexamat® rolled concrete block installation, and other associated work necessary to complete the repairs. The construction area is located on the north half of the west abutment of the West First Street bridge over North Creek.     

Bid invitations were sent to eleven (11) contractors. Two (2) bids were received for the project as follows:

Jasper Construction Services, Inc.                                          $36,300.00

Jensen Construction Company                                               $46,550.00

The Engineer’s estimated cost for the project was $37,100.00, and the bids were approximately 2% below to 25% above the Engineer's estimate. Jasper Construction Services, Inc. has completed projects for the City of Ankeny in the past, and they have the technical experience to complete this project. The Public Works Department recommends awarding the West First Street Bridge Abutment Flood Repair Project to Jasper Construction Services, Inc. of Newton, Iowa.
