The action before the Council is the adoption of a resolution regarding the Ankeny Public Services Remodel Project which, involves ordering construction, setting a public hearing date on the Contract Documents (plans, specifications, form of contract) estimated total cost and setting a date for the filing of bids on the project.
With the pending completion of the new Kirkendall Public Library, the next phase of the city's overall facilities plan can commence: The remodeling of the existing library into the new Public Services Building. This project is being designed by SVPA Architects and the final construction documents are completed so that the project can be ready for bidding.
The scope of the project includes a full remodeling of the interior of the structure, and site improvements including new parking and access . The interior of the building shall be demolished and rebuilt to accommodate our four public service departments. The construction work includes all civil, landscape, architectural, mechanical, electrical and technology systems. The exterior of the building shall be maintained except for the front façade, which shall be reconstructed. A new parking lot will be constructed along with a new turn lane on NW Prairie Ridge Drive. A new geothermal HVAC system and emergency generator will be included.
The project is being presented for bidding at this time. Council approval at this time will set the following schedule for the proceedings:
1. Set Date of Bid Opening and Public Hearing: October 21, 2019
2. Post Notice to Bidders and Notice of Public Hearing: October 25, 2019
3. Publish Notice to Bidders and Notice of Public of Hearing: November 1, 2019
4. Bid Opening (10:30 A.M., City Hall): November 12, 2019
5. Public Hearing and Award Contract: November 18, 2019
