The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution accepting a proposal from Soil-tek for the SW Des Moines Street - Prairie Trail to Magazine Landscaping project.

The SW Des Moines Street - Prairie Trail to Magazine Landscaping project was included as part of the overall SW Des Moines Street - Prairie Trail to Magazine project in the 2019 Capital Improvement Program.  The project includes street tree planting and permanent lawn seeding and mulching between the curb and sidewalk located between SW Magazine Road and SW Prairie Trail Parkway on SW Des Moines Street.  

Bid invitations were sent to fifteen (15) contractors. Three (3) bids were received for the project as follows:

Truelsen Blumenthal, LLC d/b/a Soil-tek          $49,550.00

RedBud Landscaping, LLC                              $60,195.00

Allen Lawn Care, LLC                                      $72,209.24

The Engineer’s estimated cost for the project was $51,500.00 and the bids were approximately 4% below to 40% above the Engineer's estimate. Soil-tek has completed similar projects for the City of Ankeny in the past, including the landscaping on NE 36th Street between NE Delaware Avenue and Interstate 35, and they have the technical experience to complete this project. The Public Works Department recommends awarding the SW Des Moines Street - Prairie Trail to Landscaping Project to Truelsen Blumenthal, LLC d/b/a Soil-tek of Grimes, Iowa.
