SUBJECT:
Consider motion to approve the
RESOLUTION
authorizing the City of Ankeny to submit an application for Federal Surface Transportation Block Grant Set-Aside Program Funding to the Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the partial funding of the Oralabor Gateway Trail - SW State Street Overpass Project and further approving the application which obligates the City of Ankeny to matching funds for the construction of said project.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
This year's Federal STBG Set-Aside grants will provide federal funding for trail improvement projects in the year 2024. Staff recommends that the City of Ankeny apply to the MPO for partial funding of the Oralabor Gateway Trail - SW State Street Overpass project. This project is included in the Capital Improvements Program with construction targeted for the 2023/2024 construction seasons. Staff applied to the MPO for similar funding for this project last year and was awarded $300,000. The project carried a cost estimate of $1,600,000.

If successful, the additional funding from this grant will partially offset the $1.6 million estimated costs for this overpass project.
