The action before the Council is the adoption of a resolution regarding the Ankeny City Hall Council Chambers Renovation, which involves ordering construction, setting a public hearing date on the Contract Documents (plans, specifications, form of contract) estimated total cost and setting a date for the filing of bids on the project.
With the pending completion of the new Kirkendall Public Library, the next phases of the city's overall facilities plan can commence. The remodeling of the existing library into the new Public Services Building is ready for bidding and will commence to construction pending Council's authorization. The other project that can commence at this time is the renovation of the City Council chambers into the utility billing department. This project is being designed by SVPA Architects and the final construction documents are completed so that the project can be ready for bidding.
The existing council chambers and reception area within Ankeny City Hall shall be renovated to provide a new reception area and utility billing department. The proposed improvements generally include:

Demolition work to remove the existing council chambers and reception desk.

Renovation of the chambers area into offices and work stations to house the utility billing department.

Construct three reception stations and a new bathroom.

Remodel / expand an existing conference room and IT work room.
Council approval to proceed with this project will set the following schedule for the proceedings:
1. Set Date of Bid Opening and Public Hearing: November 18, 2019
2. Post Notice to Bidders and Notice of Public Hearing: November 22, 2019
3. Publish Notice to Bidders and Notice of Public of Hearing: November 29, 2019
4. Bid Opening (10:30 A.M., City Hall): December 10, 2019
5. Public Hearing and Award Contract: December 16, 2019
