SUBJECT:
Ord 1992: An Ordinance amending Section 22.01 Established; Qualifications; Appointment of Chapter 22, Plan and Zoning Commission of the City of Ankeny, Iowa.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The City of Ankeny currently has nine members on the Plan and Zoning Commission. A survey of Iowa communities shows that the majority of those jurisdictions have seven-member Commissions. Staff has desired to reduce the size of the Commission from nine members to seven members to make communications and meetings more manageable.

 

Staff was recently notified by one of the current Commissioners, whose term is ending on January 31, 2020, that he does not wish to be reappointed to another term. Additionally, the Commission has already been operating for a few months with only eight members. Therefore, this would be an appropriate time to officially reduce the size of the Commission from nine members to seven.  
FISCAL IMPACT: No
The City pays for each Commissioners membership to the American Planning Association. The reduction of two members will reduce the cost of this membership to the City by approximately $160 ($80 x 2 Commissioners).
CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATIONS:

Recommend Approval of Ordinance 1992, reducing the official membership of the Plan and Zoning Commission from nine members to seven members.
