In 2007, the City of Ankeny entered in to a 28E agreement with Polk County, Polk City and the Des Moines Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation Authority (WRA) to construct the Rock Creek Interceptor Sewer, Phase 26, Segment 1-5. The sewer was subsequently constructed and is a WRA-owned and operated facility. It runs from Polk City south along Rock Creek through the western side of Ankeny and carries sewage flows to the the Des Moines sewer system where it is ultimately transported to the WRA plant facility for treatment.
As part of the terms and conditions for the WRA to own and maintain the Rock Creek Sewer, each city including Ankeny was directed to convey easements for the sewer to the WRA. These easements are located across the street rights-of-way or located on any other city-owned property where the sewer was constructed. All necessary sewer easements across private property were acquired prior to construction. The specific locations of these easements are across West First Street, NW 5th Street, NW 18th Street, and NW 36th Street; and along the creek within the Boulder Brook subdivision.
In order to convey these easements to the WRA, a public hearing is required. Pending approval of this action, the hearing will be held on June 1, 2020.
