Proposed Maximum Property Tax Dollars for Fiscal Year July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Iowa Code Section 384.15A requires that cities must publish and hold a public hearing to outline the maximum property tax dollars requested in the FY 2024 Budget. The notice of public hearing shows the property tax dollars as they appear in the FY 2023 Budget, what the tax levy would be for FY 2024 if the property tax dollars remained the same, and what the FY 2024 Budget proposes in property tax dollars and the corresponding tax levy. Any increase in property taxes in excess of 2% requires a super majority vote of the Council.
The notice of public hearing shows the general and police and fire retirement levies. It does not show the aviation authority and debt services levies. The tax levy shown is $6.75670 of the total $9.90 in the proposed FY 2024 Budget.
