SUBJECT:
Ord 2139: An Ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances of the City of Ankeny, Iowa, by amending provisions pertaining to water rates.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The ordinance under consideration raises water use rates by 8 percent and service availability charges by 4 percent, effective April 1, 2023. 

The increase is necessary to fund the 10 percent increase in capacity rates for water purchased from Des Moines Water Works and local infrastructure projects planned in the 2023 Capital Improvement Program.
FISCAL IMPACT: Yes

Below is the impact of the proposed utility rate changes:

The illustration assumes a residential customer with a 5/8" meter using 4,000 gallons of water per month and 1 ERU for storm water purposes.  This customer will see an increase of $31.77 or 2.95% in their utility bill for FY 2024.
CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATIONS:
Recommend amending the Code of Ordinances of the City of Ankeny, Iowa, by amending provisions pertaining to water rates.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL/COMMISSION/BOARD ACTION(S):
Utility rate recommendations were presented to the City Council at the February 27, 2023 Budget Workshop.

Action: Consider motion to accept second consideration of ORDINANCE 2139.
