The action before the Council is the adoption of a Resolution accepting a proposal from HMG Land Management for the 2023 Native Vegetation Maintenance project.

The 2023 Native Vegetation Maintenance project includes spot herbicide applications, broadcast herbicide applications, initial cut and disposal of vegetation, dormant prairie seeding, and maintenance trips to 8 locations within the City of Ankeny.

The project locations are all located on public property and include Des Moines Street Corridor, High Trestle Trail at S. Ankeny Blvd, Promenade Park, Centennial Park, Chautauqua Park, Public Service Building, Ankeny Art Center, and Fire Station No. 2. The dormant prairie seeding location covers 2.5 acres. The project includes temporary traffic control as needed, mobilization, and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project.

Bid invitations were sent to seven (7) contractors. Two (2) bids were received for the project as follows:

EOR Iowa, LLC                                             $29,992.50

HMG Land Management       $29,942.50

The Engineer's Estimate was $35,330.00. The bids were approximately 15% below the engineer's estimate. HMG Land Management has the technical experience to complete this project. The Public Works Department recommends awarding the 2023 Native Vegetation Maintenance project to HMG Land Management of Promise City, Iowa.
