Consider motion to adopt RESOLUTION authorizing the execution of an Urban-State Traffic Engineering Program (U-STEP) funding agreement between the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) and the City of Ankeny, Iowa, for the sharing of construction costs for the proposed North Ankeny Boulevard Improvements - 1st Street to 11th Street project.

The North Ankeny Boulevard Improvements - 1st Street to 11th Street project is a joint project with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT).  The project will reconstruct the northbound lanes of N Ankeny Boulevard from 1st Street to 400 feet north of 5th Street and the southbound lanes from 1st Street to just north of 11th Street.  The project will also add right turn lanes at 5th Street, 9th Street and 11th Street and install new traffic signals.  There will also be turn lanes added on 5th Street and 9th Street along with landscaping improvements at the intersections.  The proposed improvements will improve traffic mobility and safety along the corridor. 

The Iowa DOT has submitted the attached U-STEP Agreement which stipulates the cost sharing and eligible costs for this construction, to a maximum of $400,000 reimbursement. 

It is recommended that the City Council take the following action:

1. Consider motion to authorize the execution of an Urban-State Traffic Engineering Program (U-STEP) funding agreement between the Iowa DOT and the City of Ankeny for the sharing of construction costs for the North Ankeny Boulevard Improvements - 1st Street to 11th Street project.
